Clue 12
Sector B - Marina / Cow Hollow / Pacific Heights
Romance Story
Author: Game Control (IdaRose Sylvester)
This final clue was the story of Oscar and Sierra, two lonely hearts who find each other at an Army holiday dance…
|
“Would
you like to dance the foxtrot with me, lovely lady?”
A dark, intoxicating voice sang to the woman in the corner, bringing
her out of her daydream. “My
name is Oscar Bartholomew Williams, First Lieutenant of the US Army.” At first mesmerized by the voice, she then had
a sudden lurching feeling in her stomach and summed up to herself—“another
Army Romeo, no thanks.” Smiling,
she looked at the man and said “I don’t care for that dance, I much
prefer the tango, but since they are not playing that tonight, tough
luck Mike, or whatever you name is.”
Feeling very much the alpha female for the moment, Sierra spun
on her heels and hurried away from Oscar. Finding
herself back in a corner, she started to feel regret.
Already, it was November, and it looked like she would spend
another Christmas alone. Being
an on again off again alpha female seemed to cause a continual cycle
of rejecting men for no good reason, then living a lonely existence.
Every holiday, she was forced to spend with her family in the
delta, discussing yet again why she was alone, husbandless, for yet
another holiday. Suddenly,
she heard a familiar voice behind her.
“Hey, it’s me 'Mike,' and I don’t take no for an answer when
I have found someone like you. I
was supposed to ship off to |
Hints:
Hint 1 was "It's the military alphabet."
Hint 2 was at Game Control's discretion, but generally dealt with how to find the actual physical location of the final party.
Solution
Judicious use of the military alphabet turned this clue from a romance into something else entirely:

I was supposed to ship off to India
the end of November, but the
Army changed its mind and I refuse to be alone for the holidays. Be my Major General, lovely, albeit stubborn,
lady.” Bravo! For once,
a REAL man, ready to understand her heart and make her feels secure. Well, Lieutenant, although my family always
serves lima bean and corn succotash
casserole for the holidays, I am sure we would be welcomed up at their
house in the delta, and perhaps
we can bring our own food. If
not, the great water skiing and golf
helps make up for the food, and not being alone will be a great gift
for both of us. Assignment accepted, Lieutenant, let’s leave
this silly dance party behind. I
heard the Army is throwing a better party tonight over at the old fort. Let's go!" |

FORT MASON ADMIN BLDG
Teams
that realized that the gray star on the Fort Mason map in their game packet
in fact pinpointed the exact location of the party got brownie points for
being observant. Teams that called Game Control to ask where
the building was groaned when they were once again directed to something in
their game packet that had been right before their eyes all along. Observation and keen attention are the key!
