Clue 2
Sector F - Inner Richmond / Western Addition
CD
Author: Game Control (Jen van Stelle, with help from DeeAnn Sole)
This clue consisted of a CD in a jewel case, with a piece of the San Francisco Examiner newspaper as a cover, and a quarter taped to the inside back of the case (clearly visible when the jewel case was turned over). On the front of the CD was printed a collage of the portraits of various artists
When the disk was played, teams heard short excerpts of the following songs:
"Jumper", performed by Third Eye Blind
"Magic Man", performed by Heart
"Here Comes the Rain Again", performed by Eurythmics
"Go Your Own Way", performed by Fleetwood Mac
"San Francisco Days", performed by Chris Isaak
"Stairway to Heaven", performed by Led Zeppelin
"Constant Craving", performed by kd lang
"Building a Mystery", performed by Sarah McLachlan
"Nothing Compares 2 U", performed by Sinead O'Connor
"It's The End Of The World As We Know It", performed by REM
"Crazy for This Girl", performed by evan and jaron
Hints
Hint 1 was "You want the artist/band, not the song title."
Hint 2 was relatively juicy -- a team that called in was to tell Game Control which names they'd already found, and Game Control would then provide them with three more (usually harder-to-get) names
Solution
The "ah-ha" moment in this clue consisted of realizing that the point of portraying artists on the front of the CD was intended to point teams to the songs' artists (rather than the titles, the number of seconds of each track, etc.). Lining up the names of the artists, you'd get:
Third Eye Blind
Heart
Eurythmics
Fleetwood Mac
Chris Isaak
Led Zeppelin
kd lang
Sarah McLachlan
Sinead O'Connor
REM
evan and jaron
An extra twist required that you use the first letter of each band's name, but in the case of individuals, the first letter of each last name (this was unfortunately not as clear as it could have been [mea culpa - Jen.], but teams that needed a hint called and got one), giving you:
T hird Eye Blind
H eart
E urythmics
F leetwood Mac
I saak, Chris
L ed Zeppelin
L ang, kd
M cLachlan, Sarah
O 'Connor, Sinead
R EM
E van and jaron

THE
FILLMORE. Once teams arrived at the Fillmore, an extra
step was needed. Remember the quarter
taped to the back of the jewel case, and the Examiner jewel case cover? Right! The
next clue was hidden in an envelope taped to the inside top of the nearest
San Francisco Examiner newspaper box (directly across
