- What is the BATH?
Bay
Area Treasure Hunt (BATH) is a combination road-rally and treasure
hunt. Teams race to find and solve a dozen clues scattered around
San Francisco. Each clue leads to the location of the next, and
the final clue leads to a party.
The
BATH is an opportunity to spend a day with your friends--solving
puzzles and exploring San Francisco.
- When will BATH take place?
BATH
is scheduled for March 8th, 2003.
It
will start at 10:00 a.m. with breakfast and end when the last
person leaves the party that evening.
- Where will BATH be held?
The
BATH will be take place entirely within the confines of San Francisco.
Teams will drive or walk to various locations in the city.
The
starting location for the BATH will not be announced to participants
until a week or two before the game.
- Who can play in the BATH?
Anyone!
The BATH is open to the first 30 teams that apply. You may have
as many people on your team as you like, so long as everyone fits
into one vehicle.
-
How much will it cost?
The
registration fee for the BATH is $20 per attendee through February
22nd, 2003. After Feb 22nd, the registration fee goes
up to $25 per attendee. If you use Paypal, there is an additional
$1 charge to cover their service fees.
BATH
registration fees cover hunt entry, a set of clues (for your team),
and admission to the end-game party.

How do I sign up?
Form a team. Call
your friends. Find out who wants to play. Remember, everyone must
fit into one vehicle. That's about 4 people for an ordinary car,
unless everyone wants to be really close and friendly.
Select a team name. This
step is optional. Teams will get numbers the day of the BATH,
but do you really want to be known as "No Name Team #5?"
Who are you? What does your team stand for? What do you want to
get out of the BATH? Any of these questions might lead you to
a team name.
Choose a division, Regular or Masters.
Decide whether to submit a clue. Submitting
a clue is another optional part of the BATH. If you like puzzles,
this is your chance to create a puzzle for other people to enjoy!
Your clue will be automatically submitted for the Best Clue award.

to register!
Pay
for yourself and/or your teammates. Click here to
pay! There is a limit of 30 teams. Your payment will guarantee
your team's place in the game.
- Can we sign up on game day?
Yes,
but we are limiting BATH to the first 30 teams who apply.
- I don't have a team! Can you help
me find one?
If you want to play and you
cannot find a team, please join our yahoogroups list BATHTeams
(click on "Mailing List" on the menu at left). The
welcome message on that list will give you ideas for how to
go about finding a team or adding one or two extra players to
an existing team.
A
week or so before the BATH, we will also try to actively match
teams that need members with players who need teams. Just write
to us at:
BATHGameControl@yahoogroups.com
if you need our assistance, we'll be happy to help.
- What is the difference between Regular
and Masters divisions?
We expect the majority
of participants to sign up for the Regular division. The Masters
division is for players with experience in puzzle solving events
and/or those looking for some more challenging clues. Some aid
will be given to players in the Regular division to make the clue
solving process slightly easier.
-
Do we have to do anything before the
BATH starts?
Warm-up
activities and hints will be posted on this web site during the
month of February. These activities will help you during the hunt,
but they are not mandatory.
-
Do we have to submit a clue?
Nope!
We want everyone to enjoy this event. This part of the BATH is
aimed at people who like to create clues as well as solve them.
If you just want to have a great time on the day of the hunt,
don't bother with submitting a clue.
-
Will we lose if we don't submit a clue?
Nope!
Most people won't have clues in the BATH. We expect 30 teams.
If you don't submit a clue, you'll be starting in exactly the
same position as most of the people who play in the BATH.
Remember. The BATH is about exploring San Francisco and having
fun. The party at the end is your prize. Everyone can win that
prize!
