The title was not, in fact, a reference to Dave Brubeck's
celebrated tune, "Take Five". It was actually a reference
to the word in the clue with five letters. All the rest
of the answers were essentially busy-work, though if you
couldn't figure out the all-important word directly, you
could most likely figure it out if you'd gotten the word
with four letters and the word with six - every word was
a progressive letter deletion, such that all the letters
of the previous word save one were used in the next.
That is, each answer was one letter less than the previous
one:
12: DALTON GOOBER
11: GOLDEN ROBOT
10: OREGON BOLT
9: BOLTON EGO
8: GOT NOBEL?
7: BOOTLEG
6: GOBLET
5: GLOBE
4: LOGE
3: GEL
2: GE or EL [Master's Division could only answer GE]
1: E
The Globe restaurant is located at 290 Pacific Avenue.
There are three kinds of clues - (A) the kind where you
have a great clue idea and just need to find a location
to which you can apply it; (B) the kind where you have
a cool location, and need to come up with a clue to get
people there; and (C) the kind where the location and
the clue idea evolve together. This was Type B - Alexandra
saw the skeletal metal sphere hanging from the façade
of The Globe restaurant, and knew (with the Bond-themed
game coming up) that we absolutely had to find a license
plate saying "NOT ENOUGH" and hang it on the world. So
we did.
