The suggestion that teams join Bond in having a martini
at this clue location narrowed down the possibilities
to a bar, or a restaurant with a bar. Teams simply needed
to figure out what a "cervine" was (Webster's says it's
"of, relating to, or resembling deer").
An Alaskan cervine would have to be an elk, reindeer,
or moose.
Given that this was the last clue, and that teams knew
they had to head to Washington Square to check in at the
end, many teams realized that moose was the correct answer
- for Moose's Café, Bar and Restaurant, located at 1652
Stockton Street.
Some teams, though they did not actually solve the clue,
either noticed the sign on their way to the check-in table
and popped in to snag the license plate number, or saw
other teams heading into Moose's and simply followed them.
A hint which most teams missed was the language on the
placard in the newsbox: "You're going to meet oh
oh seven, end suspense."
There was a good reason why we spelled it "oh oh
seven" instead of 007. Check out the first letters
of the words: "You're going to Meet
Oh Oh Seven, End Suspense" = "You're going to
MOOSE'S!!!"
Two different gentlemen played Bond at the bar for the
end of the game, Hank Davis of Golden
Gate Jeep Tours, and British expatriate Christopher
Dean of La
Place du Soleil. Both in tuxes and with martinis
in hand, they showed the license plate "ESCAPE" to teams
that greeted them. The Bonds' greetings grew progressively
cheerier as the evening wore on…
